Lesson 8 of 74 · A1, Unit 5: Out and about
Colours and describing things
Adjectives go before the noun and do not change to agree with it: piros alma ('red apple'), piros almák ('red apples'). Only when the adjective stands on its own after 'is' can it take a plural ending.
Hungarian has two everyday words for 'red'. piros is the ordinary one — apples, traffic lights, paint. vörös is used for wine, blood, hair, and anything symbolic.
By the end you can:
- name the main colours, including piros vs vörös
- use adjective pairs like nagy / kicsi and jó / rossz before a noun
- ask what colour something is
