Lesson 41 of 74 · A1, Unit 4: Location cases
Saying where from
The third and last member of each case family is the 'out of' partner: -ból/-ből (out of an interior), -ról/-ről (off a surface, or from a place-name that takes the surface set), and -tól/-től (from a person).
-ról/-ről has a second, very common job with no connection to location at all: it also means 'about' — Mit tudsz Magyarországról? ('What do you know about Hungary?') uses the exact same ending as the location Magyarországról ('from Hungary').
By the end you can:
- say where someone/something is coming from using -ból/-ből, -ról/-ről, and -tól/-től
- ask honnan ('where from') and answer it
- use -ról/-ről in its other common meaning, 'about'
