Lesson 45 of 74 · A2, Unit 5: Grammar milestones
Sequencing a story
past-tense gave you the mechanics of what happened; this lesson gives you the connecting words that turn separate past-tense sentences into a real story: first this, then that, finally the other thing.
These sequencing words usually open the sentence: Előbb felkeltem, aztán megreggeliztem, végül elindultam ('First I got up, then I had breakfast, finally I set off').
By the end you can:
- sequence events with előbb, aztán, utána, and végül
- use közben ('meanwhile') for two things happening at once
- narrate a short sequence of past events
