Friends and relationships

This builds on people and family: barát/barátnő already cover 'friend', and this lesson adds relationship status and a few more ways to talk about the people in your life.

barátnő is both 'female friend' and 'girlfriend' depending on context — Hungarian tells them apart by context, not a different word, the way English does with 'date' the verb versus 'date' the noun.

By the end you can:

  • talk about friends and relationship status
  • use szeretlek and meghívlak, verbs with a built-in 'you'
  • ask if someone is single, married, or seeing someone
