Lesson 71 of 74 · A2, Unit 1: Daily life
Quickly, well, in Hungarian: adverbs
To say how something is done, Hungarian adds -an or -en to an adjective: gyors ('fast') → gyorsan ('quickly'), szép ('beautiful') → szépen ('beautifully'). It's the equivalent of English -ly, and vowel harmony picks the ending as usual.
Two of the most common ones are irregular: jó ('good') → jól ('well'), rossz ('bad') → rosszul ('badly'). And you already know -ul/-ül from languages: magyarul ('in Hungarian'), angolul ('in English').
By the end you can:
- form adverbs of manner with -an/-en
- use jól and rosszul correctly
- say how you speak a language and how you feel
