Lesson 74 of 74 · B1, Unit 3: Advanced grammar
-kor, -ig, -ért, -ként, -vá: more case endings
Five more endings fill in gaps English handles with prepositions: -kor 'at' a time (hatkor, karácsonykor), -ig 'until / as far as' (ötig, a sarokig), -ért 'for' in the sense of fetching or paying for (kenyérért, mennyiért?), -ként 'as' a role (tanárként), and -vá/-vé 'into', for turning into something (jéggé).
-kor, -ig, -ért and -ként never change for vowel harmony. -vá/-vé does — and its v copies the last consonant, exactly like -val/-vel: jég → jéggé, orvos → orvossá.
By the end you can:
- say at what time and until when something happens
- say what you're going out for, and ask how much something costs
- say what someone works as, and what something turns into
